It has come to our attention that the County appears to have deeded the entire property, including the land on which the Brentwood Veterans Memorial Building sits, to the local fire district. This is a concerning development, as it seems to pave the way for the fire district to continue its gradual encroachment for years to come.
Veterans were initially told that the fire district would only adjust the lot line to make room for a larger fire station. However, it now seems the entire property has been transferred. For those interested, the OnX Maps app provides ownership details for properties, and as shown in the screenshot below, the entire property is now listed under the fire district. What’s troubling is that this change occurred without any notification to veterans or the community, leaving us in the dark about these actions.
We had hoped to raise this issue with Supervisor Diane Burgis during her open house event this week, but unfortunately, she is unwell and has canceled the event. We sincerely wish her a speedy recovery and look forward to discussing this matter with her soon. We hope to understand how the County can justify these actions—deeding property explicitly purchased for veterans’ use to another entity, breaking the promise made by the Board of Supervisors nearly a century ago, and disregarding the trust of taxpayers.
