About the Board
In 1923, the Board of Supervisors of Contra Costa County made a significant acquisition by purchasing a dedicated property for the establishment of a Veterans hall. At that time, the responsibility of managing the hall and its premises was entrusted to the esteemed American Legion, the sole veterans service organization utilizing the facility. Throughout the years, additional veterans service organizations such as the VFW and Marine Corps League have united with the American Legion in this responsibility. Alongside their dedicated auxiliary organizations, these esteemed veterans have collectively assumed the responsibility of managing and preserving the building and its property for a century. Their unwavering commitment and diligent efforts have ensured that the hall remains a sacred space, honoring the service and sacrifices of our veterans for the past hundred years.
The Brentwood Veterans Memorial Building is not merely a meeting place for veterans; it has also served as a cornerstone of our community for the past century. Perhaps you yourself have had the opportunity to attend one of the numerous private or public events hosted within its walls. Over the years, thousands of gatherings and celebrations have taken place at this iconic venue, weaving it into the very fabric and rich history of Brentwood. The building stands as a proud testament to our community's unity and shared heritage, symbolizing the enduring spirit of camaraderie and service that resonates within our hometown.
In order to enhance the management of the property, the Veterans Service Organizations (VSOs) took the initiative to establish a distinct 501(c)3 organization solely dedicated to overseeing the operations of the Veterans Hall and its associated property. The Brentwood Veterans Memorial Building Inc. (BVMB) was established as an independent entity in 2006, ensuring both financial transparency and a clear separation from the individual Veterans Service Organizations. All funds collected through fees or donations by the BVMB are allocated towards the maintenance and upkeep of the building and its surrounding property, guaranteeing their preservation for future generations.

The Building transcends its role as a mere meeting place for Veterans. It stands as a solemn memorial, honoring those who made the ultimate sacrifice and those who have passed away. To veterans, a memorial holds a sacred significance, serving as a timeless commemoration of the service and sacrifice of all those who have worn the uniform. It stands as a poignant reminder to all of the selflessness and dedication displayed by veterans in service to our nation. May it forever remind us of the immeasurable contributions and sacrifices made by veterans in defense of freedom.
The Board of BVMB
The BVMB Board is composed of two members appointed or elected from each of the three Veterans Service Organizations (VSOs). Additionally, each VSO selects alternate board members to ensure consistent representation and continuity within the BVMB. The governance of the board members is guided by our by-laws, which outline the rules and responsibilities for their participation. As a demonstration of their commitment, all board members are required to sign a Code of Conduct, emphasizing their adherence to ethical standards and conduct in carrying out their duties.

Board meetings
The Board convenes on a monthly basis, specifically on the first Thursday of each month at 7pm. Our meetings take place downstairs, with the entrance located at the back of the building at 757 1st St, Brentwood, CA, United States, 94513. We extend a warm invitation to veterans from the three VSOs to attend the meetings as their schedules and circumstances permit. Your presence and participation are greatly encouraged and valued.

The county owns the land and building the veterans manage it in accordance with California Military and Veterans Code.
