Expert: Why 1st Street is the Wrong Location for a Fire Station

Expert Opinion Backs Concerns

  • Former Brentwood Fire Commissioner and longtime resident Dewey DeMaritini agrees: this is the wrong location for a new fire station.

Better Alternative Locations Exist

  • Several viable sites are available, including:

    • Brentwood Blvd between Harvest Park Dr. & Valdry Ct. (currently for sale)

    • Balfour Road (west of the railroad tracks) within three blocks of the current site

    • Walnut Blvd & Central Blvd (City-owned land)

Traffic & Safety Concerns

  • The Oak & First Street intersection is congested, making emergency response more difficult.

  • Alternative locations allow for better traffic flow and faster response times.

Encroachment on Veterans' Land

  • The land was purchased with special tax funds for veterans’ use—it was never intended for a fire station.

  • Expanding a fire station here violates the original purpose of the property.

A Smarter, More Strategic Choice is Possible

  • The city and county should choose a location that ensures both public safety and respect for veterans' property.

  • Why force the issue when better options exist?
