Myth 2 - It's About Parking

❌ Myth: The opposition to Fire Station 94 is just about parking and storage for veterans.

Fact: While parking and downtown impacts are concerns, the real issue is about taxpayer trust and the legal use of the land.

It’s true that parking in downtown Brentwood will be impacted if Fire Station 94 is built at this location. Veterans, their families, and community members attending events like crab feeds, fundraisers, and memorial services at the hall will face increased parking challenges. Local businesses will also be affected as more spaces are occupied by fire station staff.

Additionally, where will the firefighters park? A 24/7/365 facility will require dedicated parking for rotating shifts of personnel, taking up spaces in an already limited downtown area. These concerns are valid and should be addressed, but they are not the primary issue at stake.

The real issue is taxpayer trust and legal land use. This land was purchased using a special tax explicitly designated for veterans' memorials and meeting places. The County cannot legally take taxpayer-funded land and repurpose it for something entirely different.

💡 Bottom Line: This is not just about parking—it’s about ensuring that taxpayer-funded land remains used for its original purpose, as required by law. If the County can ignore legal restrictions here, what’s stopping them from misusing other taxpayer-funded projects in the future?

Yes to the Station, NO to the Location
